So we lurch unexpectedly into 2016, and another sailing season..
The year promises another packed programme of dinghy and yacht racing, open meetings, social ‘Lazy Sailing’ sessions, “flotilla trips” for the more adventurous social sailors and cup races. The traditional Regatta Week in August remains, although we will be without the amazing talents of Dick Finbow who has finally stepped down after too many years running this event. Our thanks to Dick for the fantastic event he has made it… let’s hope we can follow such a class act! The unstructured Lazy Sailing sessions remain key part of the programme, with use of the club boats available to those who need. Please note that we do not allow reservation of the boats for these occasions: whilst generally on a first-come, first-served basis, we do ask people to be considerate and share around when demand exceeds supply! The boats are of course reservable for a small fee for all other racing occasions. And please remember you must be a member to sail in the Lazy Sailing events. The flotilla trips continue to provide a great opportunity to explore the river a little further, and perhaps stop at one of the riverside pubs for a swift half! Please note that we require a basic level of competence in sailing for these occasions… you need to be able to keep up with the group! Weather permitting, the group will depart at the advertised times, so if you turn up late, the place may be deserted. Look out on the programme for the various other special events and cup races, including the Junior Regatta, Topper and Feva open meeting, Bart’s Bash and the James Bibbings pursuit race.
And for yachties, we will again run the evening races and other cup races. Look out for potential changes to the way in which we manage handicaps (more on this from your class captain) Pierre Naudé, Club Captain 01473 737576 click to email
