Summer Training 2025

We are planning to run a 2-day sailing course in August:

Thursday 7 Aug, start 0900, high water 1145, finish around 1300

Friday 8 Aug, start 0900, HW 1235, finish around 1330

The course is aimed at beginners but if you already have some sailing experience this may be a way of developing your basic skills and becoming more confident on the water. The aim of the course is to enable you to rig a boat, launch it, sail round a simple course such as a figure of 8 or triangle, recover the boat AND have fun while doing all of this. We’ll have some games while we’re afloat and maybe even some races, depending on your ability and the weather conditions.

Who can apply? Costs? This is for DYC members aged 10 to adult but non-members can apply for a 1 month membership for only £40. The course itself will cost £50. This covers use of club boats, loan of buoyancy aids, instruction by qualified staff and helpers, insurance, support boat cover and a Sailing Taster certificate.

Boats: we will aim to use small single-hander dinghies for the course such as Toppers & Qubas. You will need to be fit/agile enough to get in and out of the boats and practise manoeuvres that will mean ducking under a moving boom. We wont be in yachts! If you’re not sure if this is the sort of sailing for you then please call us to discuss.

Clothing: you will get wet at least up to your knees while launching and recovering boats, and there is a distinct possibility you will go for a swim. You’ll need suitable clothing: could be shorts and tee-shirt but if you have a waterproof jacket and trousers, or maybe even a wetsuit, it would be an advantage.

Beach shoes or old trainers, gloves / mittens.

Apply: If you’re interested, click here to access the application form.

Only 10 places available – don’t hang about!
